Federal Government, States Agree On Monthly Payment Of Rent

The dream of Nigerians of paying property rent on a monthly basis may soon be realised based on the latest resolution between the federal and state governments on the issue. At the recently concluded sixth meeting of the National Council on Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, the issue of monthly payment of rent was discussed. At the meeting of permanent secretaries during the council, senior government officials from the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory, as well as those from the Federal Ministry of Power, Works, and Housing (Works/Housing sector) agreed to enact a law that would allow monthly payment of rent across the country. In a 52-page report on the meeting of permanent secretaries at the sixth NCLHUD, which was obtained by Daily Sun from the FMPWH in Abuja, the officials also resolved that the law would be enforced, as they noted that its enforcement would enhance access to housing finance. Federal Government Begins Construction Of Estates In 33 States

The Federal Government has started the construction of mass housing projects in 33 states. It also plans to increase mobilisation funds for contractors up to 50 percent to enable emerging contractors in the building sector deliver their projects satisfactorily. The minister of Power, Works, and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who revealed this at the sixth meeting of the National Council on Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, told delegates at the event that with ongoing housing projects, the government had fulfilled 90 percent of the commitment it made at the 2016 council meeting. Fashola said, “At the time of the council meeting in August 2016, I reported that we were finalising designs to accommodate our cultural, climatic and other diversities. I had explained that when the designs were completed, we would commence construction to pilot the designs and test them for affordability and acceptability.” He added, “I am pleased to report that construction has started

As part of efforts to motivate workers, the Federal Government have concluded plans to commence the massive construction of energy-efficient houses across the country.
